No charges for man who inspired "127 Hours" film

Aron Ralston, the Colorado adventurer whose story formed the basis of the movie "127 Hours" was recently taken into custody along with his girlfriend in connection with a domestic dispute. He will not be facing any charges in the domestic violence matter, although his girlfriend is still facing charges that include disturbing the peace and assault. The case was reviewed by prosecutors who determined they did not have a reasonable chance of convicting Ralston.

The girlfriend has pleaded not guilty and has been released on a bail of $550. The girlfriend was also charged with one count of wrongs to minors. This charge is filed when children have been present during an altercation, but may not have been hurt. The couple's small daughter was apparently present when the argument took place. Each of the charges against Ralston's girlfriend may result in a sentence of up to one year in jail and a fine up to $999 if she is convicted.

According to police documents, Ralston was allegedly hit on the back of the head twice by his girlfriend and reportedly pushed her as she was leaving her residence. It was reported that the couple was arguing about one of his other children.

Domestic violence is a very serious issue and can affect families of every financial and social circumstance. Those who have been victimized by a loved one may be able to obtain temporary or permanent redress through the issuance by a court of restraining orders or other forms of protective relief. An attorney with experience in family law matters may be able to provide assistance in this process.
