Gay marriage wins approval, but divorce is now a no-no

The results of a survey conducted by the Center for Health Statistics over the 11-year period from 2002-2013 revealed some interesting responses from participants.

For instance, Americans overwhelmingly accept the rights of gay partners to marry, yet consider divorce to be wrong.

Thousands of people of both sexes between the ages of 15 and 44 were queried on topics of social issues like sexual behaviors, marriage and having kids. Their answers indicated that there was a trend toward increasing tolerance of unmarried couples having children and allowing gay parents to adopt.

Yet, startlingly, some respondents appeared to be more conservative towards divorce. Of the males that responded in a 2002 survey, 44.3 percent agreed that “divorce is usually the best solution when a couple can’t seem to work out their marriage problems.” Just three years ago, however, the number had decreased to 39.3 percent, and the younger guys had more conservative attitudes than their older counterparts. Of the men aged 35 to 44, 43.6 percent agreed with the above statement, while only 36.2 percent of those 25 to 34 shared the belief.

Women also followed that conservative trend, as 46.7 percent of females agreed with the statement in the first survey. But by 2013, this figure had dipped to 38 percent.

Both men and women agree that gays should be able to adopt kids, with 67.5 percent of males and 74.3 percent of females responding affirmatively in 2013.

It is possible to infer from these statistics that the majority of people in the United States have fewer problems with gay couples getting married than divorced.

Some have taken the figures to mean that society now finds it more accepting for a same-sex couple to get married than to get divorced.

But as long as there is marriage, there will be divorce. If you find that you want out of a same-sex marriage, you have every right to retain a family law attorney in Colorado and file for divorce.
