I’m traveling from November 1, 2020 through November 13, 2020. I expect the Internet to be spotty. However, I will be checking my email and will respond when I do have Internet service. Stay safe and healthy.

Fighting to help same-sex couples with family law issues

| Dec 30, 2016 | Same-Sex Partners

We recently discussed some of the unique challenges that same-sex couples face. When the challenges that you face are of the legal variety, such as child custody, property division or adoption, we are here to help you learn about the options that you have to handle the situation.

We know that you only want to live your life. Unfortunately, things happen all the time that might throw a wrench in your plans. You might not have foreseen the divorce coming or you might not have expected to fall in love with your partner’s child so much that you want to adopt the child. We can help you to learn the process for either of these situations.

No matter what type of family law issues that you are facing, we are here to help you work through those issues. We understand how sensitive these matters are. We aren’t here to worry about anything other the legal aspects of your situation. We can help you to explore the legal options that you might have and how each one can impact you and your family.

Colorado has some laws that specifically protect same-sex partners. We are fortunate to live in such a progressive state. With this in mind, you might have some protections or options that you might not realize. For example, if you aren’t married, you might want to enter into a domestic partnership. In this case, you can come up with an agreement that is similar to a prenuptial agreement. Having that protection could help you down the road if something happens and the relationship ends on a bad note.
